Christian and biblical insights are the substance of this well-written and documented look at Christ's life and mission and a Christian's personal mission.

The Jesus Mission is the fourth major book written by Steven K. Scott, an entrepreneur and successful businessman. The WaterBrook Press publication (ISBN 978-0-307-73049-7) is a broad and fine brush approach to the life and mission of Jesus and each person's individual walk.

The Jesus Mission: Three Parts and 19 Chapters Overview

The three major divisions or parts of this book are:

  1. Intimacy With God, The Way He Wants It
  2. The Missions Christ Has Given To You
  3. What You Never Knew About Jesus That Will Change Your Life

The first part of the book addresses in seven chapters deals with these four important questions:

What does God want from you, how do you relate and respond to that, who is Jesus and why did He come to earth? The author carries us into the concept of what being "born again" really means and what is involved in this birthing process.

The Missions Christ Has Given to You is Part 2 of the book and discussed here is intimacy with God and personal growth, empowerment of believers and the impact of a person's God-ordained mission on nonbelievers. In Chapter 12, author Scott discusses important Roadblocks, Booby Traps, and Deadly Detours to Following Christ. This important chapter provides specific insights of pride, self-righteousness, impediments of religious tradition and church issues such as multiple denominations with multiple scriptural differences and nuances. Wealth, misplaced values and procrastination are additional obstacles to growth. Chapter 13 evaluates and discusses the Promises You Can Build Your Faith On which include: eternal life, real purpose with personal fulfillment, security, God's close love, knowing truth and righteousness, a guide and counselor – the Holy Spirit.

Part 3 of The Jesus Mission reviews and discusses the important issue of who Jesus really is based on what He said about himself, what He did, what others said of Him and His impact on history since the advent of AD (Anno Domini). Scott believes and argues strongly that there can be no other honest conclusion but that Jesus was and is who He said He was. Chapter 15 is a thought-provoking and challenging title: Jesus Was Not A Socialist, A Santa Claus Or A Religious Leader and in Chapter 16 the important question is asked and then answered – Why Did Jesus Come To Earth? Chapter 17 looks at the missions that the author feels represents all that Jesus accomplished in His time on earth. Chapters 18 and 19 both look at the mission still underway and the role of a believer and disciple as it fits into the full mission and picture. Well-placed biblical citations are made in the appropriate sections of this book.

The Jesus Mission Is A Great Study and Discussion Book

For those wanting a closer look at Jesus Christ and willing to delve deeper, this book provides useful food for thought, discussion and personal action. The book is the product of someone who has obviously spent much time thinking and acting on his own personal relationship with this Jesus who proclaimed He and the Father God in Heaven are One – certainly, this is the boldest of statements anyone could make. Time spent reading, thinking and evaluating the contents of The Jesus Mission will illuminate and reveal important facets of Jesus that are worthy of your personal investment of time and thought.
